Baseball Recap: Four Straight Road Wins for Bernalillo

Bernalillo won the last time they faced Del Norte and things went their way on Friday too. The Spartans blew past the Knights 13-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Uriel Castro made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 4-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Bernalillo's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Bernalillo got a massive performance out of Anthony Garcia, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Hernan Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.

Bernalillo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Bernalillo pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Del Norte, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9-1.

Coming up, Bernalillo will take on Belen at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Del Norte, they will square off against West Mesa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.47 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
