Baseball Recap: Harlan Comes Up Short

Harlan dropped their record down to 12-10 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the South Laurel Cardinals, falling 8-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Green Dragons were not able to get on the board.

As for South Laurel, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

For South Laurel's part, Keaton Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Smith has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Waylon Hensley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Tyler Curry, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Harlan will welcome Lynn Camp at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Green Dragons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for South Laurel, they will venture away from home to challenge Madison Southern at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight.
