Softball Recap: Lakeland Chiefs vs. Old Forge Blue Devils
Lakeland had lost five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it six. They lost 11-4 to the Old Forge Blue Devils. The Chiefs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blue Devils earlier this season, when they won 9-7.
Lakeland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kamri Naniewicz, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Mandy Magnot also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Old Forge, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.3 runs.
On Old Forge's side, Kamryn Notari spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits.
At the plate, Kate O'Hearn and Lilianna Lenceski did most of the damage at the plate: O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Lenceski went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Those two doubles gave O'Hearn a new career-high. Danica Pritchyk was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakeland will take on Western Wayne at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Old Forge, they will challenge Greater Nanticoke Area at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
