Baseball Recap: Clovis Takes a Loss

Clovis extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 16-9. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Clovis West Golden Eagles. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Jackson Efird was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since April 7th.

As for Clovis West, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On Clovis West's side, they got a great performance from Andrew Griffin as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Griffin has posted since back in February.

While Clovis had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
