Softball Recap: Meridian Gets the Win

Meridian hadn't done well against Cobden recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Bobcats blew past the Appleknockers 9-2. This was payback for the Bobcats, who suffered a 7-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Brynn Gibson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kiara Lane, who went 2-for-5 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Meeks, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meridian's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Cobden, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Meridian will venture away from home to challenge Egyptian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cobden, they will host Pope County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
