Baseball Recap: Beardstown's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Beardstown entered their tilt with Olympia on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Spartans. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Tannar Riddell and Ethan Heller did most of the damage at the plate: Riddell went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Heller went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave Heller a new career-high. Trey Riddell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Beardstown's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Olympia, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Beardstown will host Quincy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Olympia, they will take on St. Thomas More at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Sabers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
