Basketball Preview: Wilmington Wildcats vs. Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers
The Wilmington Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Wilmington's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the Panthers have been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.
Even though Wilmington has not done well against the Lions recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Wilmington took down the Lions 52-35.
Wilmington's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ryan Nelson, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Kyle Farrell, who scored 20 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Farrell has scored all season. Lucas Rink was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Gardner-South Wilmington was the victim of a tough 70-47 loss at the hands of the Comets on Friday. Gardner-South Wilmington has not had much luck with the Comets recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Wilmington has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Gardner-South Wilmington, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season.
Wilmington beat the Panthers 58-45 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Does Wilmington have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
