Softball Recap: Cochranton Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Cochranton came tearing into Saturday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rocky Grove Orioles a 10-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by exactly ten runs.

Jaidin Frayer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Claudia Lippert was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claire McCartney, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Cochranton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Cochranton pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average this season. As for Rocky Grove, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Coincidentally, Cochranton and Rocky Grove will both be playing Cambridge Springs the next time they take the field. The Orioles will head out to face the Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Cardinals will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
