Northgate (Walnut Creek, Calif.) put up six points in the fourth quarter in Saturday's game to seal their 30-6 victory over
Newark Memorial (Newark, Calif.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Fisi Tavake in the first quarter, the Broncos led 24-6 at the half.
The loss snapped the Cougars' 4-game winning streak.
Northgate's standout player in the win was
Joe Pelletier. The senior tight end threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
Newark Memorial's lone touchdown came on a defensive touchdown in the second quarter.
NHS went into the matchup giving up only 16.1 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Newark Memorial, which notched a 40-8 victory over American in its previous outing.
Northgate (9-2) will play a playoff game against Newark Memorial next week, while Newark Memorial (9-3) will take on Northgate also in a playoff game.
