Volleyball Recap: University's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, University couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Saint Mary's Panthers on Saturday. The Red Devils' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Saint Mary's scored at least 18 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 25-23.

Leading Saint Mary's to victory were Landry Fa'Afiu and Lucia Parsons. Fa'Afiu had 16 digs and three assists, while Parsons had four aces and one assist. Those four aces gave Parsons a new career-high. Corinne Jones also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

University's defeat dropped their record down to 23-5. As for Saint Mary's, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 25-8.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. University will challenge Woodcreek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Saint Mary's, they will square off against Del Oro at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
