Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clayton). Their defense stepped up to hand the Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs an 8-0 shutout on Wednesday. Given Clayton's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 178th, while Southeast Raleigh are ranked 446th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Clayton's offense was hitting Southeast Raleigh from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Laila Badger led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

The victory (which was Clayton's third in a row) raised their record to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three matchups. As for Southeast Raleigh, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Clayton wasted no time getting back out on the pitch and has already played their next game, a 1-0 defeat against Athens Drive on the 27th. As for Southeast Raleigh, they will challenge Cleveland at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
