Softball Recap: Cloverdale Takes a Loss

Cloverdale extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-5 in the process. They came up short against the Greencastle Tiger Cubs, falling 8-1. If the Clovers were looking for revenge after losing 6-5 to the Tiger Cubs when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Norah Frye spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cloverdale saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paisley Meyerrose, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Greencastle, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. The result was nothing new for the Tiger Cubs, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Greencastle's side, Ali Hassler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Hassler was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Emma West was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Brinley Mullis also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Coming up, Cloverdale will host Northview at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Greencastle, they will welcome Cascade at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cadets will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Tiger Cubs surely won't give up without a fight.
