Mater Dei, St. John Bosco dominate with 12 selections; Mission Viejo's Chad Johnson named Coach of the Year.
Two of the top teams in the nation —
Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and
St. John Bosco (Bellflower) — dominated the California All-State Team with a combined 12 players on the three 30-member squads.
A St. John Bosco player also captured MaxPreps State Player of the Year honors with linebacker
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa also recognized by the Los Angeles Times and the Long Beach Press Telegram as the top player in their coverage areas. The Notre Dame recruit also ranks as the No. 5 player in California, according to 247Sports, and the No. 6 linebacker in the nation.
Coach of the Year honors goes to Chad Johnson of
Mission Viejo after leading the Diablos to a Southern Section Division 2 championship over Servite (Anaheim). He then guided his team to wins over Granite Hills (El Cajon) in the Southern California Regional Final and De La Salle (Concord) in the CIF Division 1-AA bowl championship to finish 13-3.
