Volleyball Recap: Lake Gibson Comes Up Short

Lake Gibson was the 3-1 winner over Lakeland when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Braves fell just short of the Dreadnaughts by a score of 3-2 on Thursday.

Lake Gibson took Lakeland into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking six-point loss. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-9, 22-25, 18-25, 15-9.

Kayla Staats paced Lake Gibson's offense, picking up 12 kills. Staats got some help from Peyton Hopkins and her 27 assists. Finally, Staats was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high four blocks.

Lake Gibson's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Lakeland, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Gibson will welcome Lakeland Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lakeland, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against George Jenkins at 7:00 p.m. on September 8.
