Basketball Recap: West Carteret Takes a Loss

The matchup between West Carteret and Croatan on Thursday hardly resembled the 27-25 effort from their previous meeting. The West Carteret Patriots took a 60-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Croatan Cougars. The Patriots just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

It was another big night for Neely McMannen, who went 8-for-17 on her way to 28 points and four steals for Croatan. With that strong performance, McMannen is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Shearin, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.

West Carteret's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Croatan, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Carteret will square off against Swansboro at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Croatan, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars face off against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
