Softball Recap: Morris Catholic's Run of Six Straight Wins Now Over

Morris Catholic dropped their record down to 7-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell 6-1 to the Red Bank Catholic Caseys. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Crusaders couldn't push the score so high this time.

Sofia Reisinger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Morris Catholic saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marielle Balonze, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Red Bank Catholic, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

On Red Bank Catholic's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lily Hagan gave up a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nicole Knox, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Grace Lombardi was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Morris Catholic will take on St. Anthony's at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for Red Bank Catholic, they will welcome Marlboro at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Caseys 1.7, the Mustangs 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
