Basketball Recap: Houston Math Science & Tech Comes Up Short

After soaring to 58 points the game before, Houston Math Science & Tech was a bit more limited in their game on Monday. They took a blow against the Heights Bulldogs, falling 94-26. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost nine in a row.

Trevan Williams was Houston Math Science & Tech's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Chadwick Stearns held things down on the boards with five rebounds.

Heights' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dj Baines, who went 7 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 25 points in addition to six assists and five steals. That's the most steals Baines has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric (Ej) Beard Jr, who went 10 for 18 on his way to 24 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Houston Math Science & Tech's loss dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Heights, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 13-11.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Houston Math Science & Tech Tigers challenge the Bellaire Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th. Bellaire is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season. As for Heights, they will venture away from home to face off against Westside at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Westside's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Heights has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
