Baseball Recap: Greater Grace Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Greater Grace Christian Academy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-5 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the Rockbridge Academy Scots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Scots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-5 on Tuesday.

As for Rockbridge Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-4. The result was nothing new for the Scots, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Rockbridge Academy's part, John Ault made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Ault has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Rockbridge Academy let Will Schingeck and Christian Keatts run wild. Schingeck went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs, while Keatts went 1-for-2 with five stolen bases and two runs. Those two runs gave Keatts a new career-high. Micah Farris was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Looking ahead, Greater Grace Christian Academy will take on Covenant Life at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Rockbridge Academy, they will face off against Mount Airy Christian Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Rockbridge Academy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Mount Airy Christian Academy has averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
