Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Notre Dame had won five straight on the road, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 9-2 to make it six. They never let the Oakfield-Alabama Hornets get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Fighting Irish, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The result came thanks to Chase Antinore's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Notre Dame saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Fitzpatrick, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits Fitzpatrick has posted since back in April of 2024.

As for Oakfield-Alabama, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. The game marked the first time this season in which they were not able to get on the board.

On Oakfield-Alabama's side, Avery Watterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. Watterson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

Notre Dame wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 7-0 victory against Alexander on the 12th. As for Oakfield-Alabama, they will venture away from home to challenge Letchworth at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets are facing the Legends at the right time seeing as the Legends are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
