Softball Recap: North Johnston Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

North Johnston dropped their record down to 8-4 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cape Fear Colts. The Panthers were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the four contests prior), but the Colts' pitcher proved too tough.

North Johnston saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sidney Stanley, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Cape Fear, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games.

On Cape Fear's side, McKinley Kolasa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. Kolasa has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Peyton Eason, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Kalilah De La Cruz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Johnston will square off against Farmville Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jaguars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cape Fear, they will face off against South View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Colts 3.1, the Tigers 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
