Softball Recap: Penn Takes Down La Porte in a Playoff Battle

Penn had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the La Porte Slicers on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Kingsmen, who have now won 16 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Penn got a great performance from Olivia Signorino as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Signorino has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Zachary, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Rumble, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Penn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in seven consecutive contests.

Penn's record now sits at 23-4. As for La Porte, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-17.

Looking ahead, Penn will square off against Elkhart at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Kingsmen surely won't give up without a fight. La Porte does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
