The Perry Pirates will head out on the road to challenge the Solon Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Perry has four straight wins, Solon has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Perry got the win against Lakeside by a conclusive 20-2. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by eight runs or more this season.
Morgan Winters made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Elise Strahan was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Madeline Infalvi also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, while it was Solon who put the first runs on the board on Monday, it was Wadsworth who put up more. The Comets came up short against the Grizzlies, falling 12-3.
Ali Palsa made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Claire Bush, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Perry pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Solon, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Solon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Perry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. It's a different story for Solon, though, as they've only averaged .352. Will they be able to contain Perry's hitters?
Perry took their victory against Solon in their previous meeting back in May of 2021 by a conclusive 10-4 score. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
