Softball Recap: Bishop Canevin Takes a Loss

Bishop Canevin extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-8 in the process. They lost 15-1 to Sewickley Academy. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Sewickley Academy this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 two weeks ago.

As for Sewickley Academy, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Considering they have won six contests by more than 11 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Sewickley Academy's part, Charlotte Andrews (2028) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 18 Ks. Those 18 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Andrews (2028).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Marie Bigi (2025), who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Quincy Sirko (2025), who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop Canevin will host Cornell at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.86 runs per game on average), something the Crusaders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Sewickley Academy, they will challenge South Side at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
