Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sevier County). They blew past the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders 17-2 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Smoky Bears in their matchups with the Highlanders: they've now won nine in a row.
Jade Hubbard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Emma McClure and McKenzie Turner did most of the damage at the plate: McClure got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and one double, while Turner got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave Turner a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Briley Keyes, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Sevier County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gatlinburg-Pittman only posted a batting average of .208.
Sevier County's record is now 5-11. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sevier County will challenge Jefferson County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they will host Eagleton College & Career Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
