Football Recap: Brookwood Falls to Houston County in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Brookwood had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 31-24 to the Houston County Bears on Saturday. The matchup was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Broncos couldn't quite close it out.

Several Broncos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brayden Tyson, who rushed for 140 yards and one score. Tyson's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 128 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Houston County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Colin Anderson out in front who rushed for 101 yards and one TD on only eight carries. Anderson's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Maxwell, who threw for 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 71.9% of his passes.

Brookwood and Houston County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. The Broncos (ranked 57th) will meet Shiloh (ranked 219th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Houston County will face off against Effingham County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (18 vs. 112).
