Baseball Recap: Cherokee County Triumphs

Cherokee County won the last time they faced White Plains and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Warriors walked away with a 5-1 win over the Wildcats. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly four runs.

Cam Mayo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cherokee County is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Cherokee County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Jacoway, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Adam Griffith, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Cherokee County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for White Plains, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Cherokee County will have a chance to go back-to-back against White Plains: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
