Horizon Honors has gone 8-2 against Phoenix Country Day recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Horizon Honors is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Horizon Honors took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Arizona Lutheran Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Coyotes on Tuesday.
Logan Walker was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Walker wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Holweger, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple was Holweger's first of the season.
Meanwhile, while Phoenix Country Day put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Veritas Prep. The Eagles walked away with a 3-0 win over the Falcons. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Like Horizon Honors, Phoenix Country Day also got a great game from a two-way player: Kailer Smith. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Whalen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February of 2024.
Horizon Honors has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3-1 record this season. As for Phoenix Country Day, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Horizon Honors has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Phoenix Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
