Basketball Recap: Sumiton Christian Comes Up Short

Sumiton Christian lost against Winston County two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sumiton Christian Eagles lost 51-25 to the Winston County Yellowjackets. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 147th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winston County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ellie Veal, who posted eight points in addition to seven steals and five boards. That's the most steals Veal has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylee Calloway, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Sumiton Christian and nudges their season record down to 2-12. As for Winston County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which somehow still isn't as good as their 18-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sumiton Christian has already played their next contest (against Hubbertville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Winston County has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against Cullman Christian.
