Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Karis Vernelson and Olivia Smith Lead Victory Christian to Victory

Victory Christian entered their tilt with Shining Light Baptist Academy on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Sharks 3-0. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cardinals also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

The final score came out to 25-10, 25-14, 25-20.

Leading Victory Christian to victory were Olivia Smith and Karis Vernelson. Smith had 18 assists and seven aces, while Vernelson had 13 kills, four digs, and four aces. Those 13 kills gave Vernelson a new career-high. Marissa Sloan was another key player, getting four aces and two blocks.

They weren't the only good server: Victory Christian was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Victory Christian's win bumped their record up to 5-1.

After both having extra time off, Victory Christian and New Manna Christian will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Shining Light Baptist Academy, they will square off against Mountain View Christian Academy at 12:25 p.m. on Thursday.
