Baseball Recap: Croatan Has No Trouble Against Havelock

Croatan won the last time they faced Havelock and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Croatan Cougars blew past the Havelock Rams 7-1. That looming 7-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Owen Woodruff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Easton Taylor, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Nathan Griffin was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Croatan pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Havelock, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Croatan will square off against White Oak at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The match will give Croatan their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season. As for Havelock, they will take on New Bern at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
