Recap: West Orange-Stark Mustangs vs. Vidor Pirates
The matchup between the West Orange-Stark Mustangs and the Vidor Pirates on Friday hardly resembled the 34-17 effort from their previous meeting. The game between the pair wasn't particularly close, with West Orange-Stark falling 62-48. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1039th, while Vidor is ranked 347th).
Vidor was led to victory by Madison Powell and Raegan Stephenson. Powell scored 17 points, while Stephenson scored 17 points along with four blocks. The matchup was Powell's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Morrison, who scored seven points.
This is the second loss in a row for West Orange-Stark and nudges their season record down to 3-6. As for Vidor, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.
After both having extra time off, West Orange-Stark and Lumberton will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Vidor will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Silsbee at 1:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
