Basketball Game Preview: Whitman Vikings vs. Springbrook Blue Devils

Whitman is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Springbrook is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Whitman Vikings will host the Springbrook Blue Devils at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Whitman knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 matchups -- so hopefully Springbrook likes a good challenge.

Whitman is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They skirted past Bethesda-Chevy Chase 61-58. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Barons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whitman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sean Curran, who shot 4-for-6 from long range and dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. That's the most rebounds Curran has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Titian DeRosa, who put up ten points and seven assists.

Meanwhile, Springbrook was able to grind out a solid win over Kennedy on Thursday, taking the game 65-56. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitman's victory bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Springbrook, their win bumped their record up to an identical 20-4.

Whitman came up short against Springbrook in their previous matchup back in December of 2019, falling 60-51. Can Whitman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
