Basketball Recap: Tri-West Hendricks Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Leah Mulligan and Lauren Bear

After flying high against Frankfort last Friday, Tri-West Hendricks came back down to earth. The Tri-West Hendricks Bruins lost to the Sheridan Blackhawks on the road by a 68-49 margin on Tuesday. The Bruins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blackhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2018.

Lauren Bear and Leah Mulligan certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Bear went 8 for 18 on her way to 20 points, while Mulligan posted 11 points and three steals. Bear's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Aniyah Anthony was another key player, putting up four points.

Even though they lost, Tri-West Hendricks smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Kenzie Garner, who went 7 of 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 28 points along with seven rebounds and six assists for Sheridan. Garner is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 18 or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cecilia Timme, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points and five assists.

With the defeat, Tri-West Hendricks broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-5. As for Sheridan, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Tri-West Hendricks wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-52 loss against Lafayette Central Catholic on the 21st. As for Sheridan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-18 win against Tipton on the 18th.
