Softball Recap: Piedra Vista Wins Going Away Against Rio Rancho

Piedra Vista hadn't done well against Rio Rancho recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 21-5 win. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

The team relied heavily on MICHAELA PEREA, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. KAITLYN TAFOYA also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

PEREA wasn't the only one making solid contact: Piedra Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Piedra Vista has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Rio Rancho, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Piedra Vista will face off against rival Farmington at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Rio Rancho is set to challenge their familiar foe Cleveland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
