Baseball Recap: Munford Drops Highest Score of Season Against Millington Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Munford). They put the hurt on the Millington Central Trojans with a sharp 16-0 win on Saturday. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 15-0 win back in April.

Drew McCann looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Munford got a massive performance out of Curly Lowry, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Lowry has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 11-14 otherwise. Jaxzen Scheidt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Munford hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 5-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

With the victory, Munford broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 16-14. As for Millington Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-25 record this season.

Munford will take on Melrose at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.63 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. Millington Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
