The Byron Bears will square off against the Goodhue Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Goodhue will be up against a hot Byron team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. The Bears walked away with a 12-7 victory over Owatonna on Monday.
Sydney Portner was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ella Brennan, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Byron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2025.
Meanwhile, Goodhue hadn't done well against Pine Island recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 10-5. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Wildcats' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Lucy Wachholz and Aubrey Christianson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Wachholz pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Christianson pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Wachholz went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Christianson got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs.
In other batting news, Jenna Nelson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2025. Lola Christianson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Byron's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Goodhue, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Goodhue's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Byron hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. It's a different story for Goodhue, though, as they've only averaged .185. Will they be able to contain Byron's hitters?
Everything went Byron's way against Goodhue in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, as Byron made off with a 10-1 win. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
