The Volunteer Falcons will take on the Greeneville Greene Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Saturday, Volunteer lost to Gate City on the road by a 47-28 margin. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 240th in Tennessee, while the Blue Devils are ranked 71st in Virginia).
Volunteer's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Scarlett McClaran, who posted 12 points and three steals, and Elisabeth Byington, who had four points and seven boards. McClaran is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games.
Meanwhile, Greeneville was able to grind out a solid win over Grainger on Friday, taking the game 59-50. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Greene Devils.
Greeneville's win came from a few key players Volunteer will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Abby Adkins, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Maria Lyde, who went 6 of 8 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds.
Greeneville was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.
Volunteer dropped their record down to 10-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Greeneville, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Volunteer has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Greeneville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
