Baseball Game Preview: Middletown Mustangs vs. Piner Prospectors

The Middletown Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Piner Prospectors at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Piner took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Middletown, who comes in off a win.

Middletown is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Willits 15-0 on Wednesday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Wolverines recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Cody Perez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Middletown is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 0-2-1 otherwise. Perez was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Those hits were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Kelby Shook was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was John Finney, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Piner came up short against Analy on Friday, falling 12-3. The Prospectors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Piner's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Middletown, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-3-1.

Middletown skirted past Piner 7-6 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Middletown since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
