Softball Game Preview: Spackenkill Spartans vs. Marlboro Central Dukes

Spackenkill is 0-4 against Marlboro Central since May of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Dukes at 4:15 p.m. Spackenkill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Spackenkill beat Our Lady of Lourdes 8-3.

Katherine Darcy tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Isabella Gilmore, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Cora Polakowski was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Spackenkill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Marlboro Central put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let John Jay get on the board and left with a 3-0 win.

Marlboro Central's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Spackenkill, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
