Softball Recap: Heritage Christian Comes Up Short

Heritage Christian extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bethesda Christian Patriots. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Anna Hilbrich was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one double. Sela Barrow was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

As for Bethesda Christian, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

On Bethesda Christian's side, Annah Heath spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Bethesda Christian let Avery Gibbs and Alyssa Crowder run wild. Gibbs went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Crowder went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Crowder a new career-high. Maylin Heathco also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Looking ahead, Heritage Christian will be playing at home against Guerin Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Eagles' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Bethesda Christian, they are taking a road trip to square off against Ben Davis at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
