Baseball Recap: Martins Ferry Takes a Loss

Martins Ferry extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 6-9 in the process. They fell 4-0 to the Indian Creek Redskins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redskins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 on Monday.

As for Indian Creek, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.

For Indian Creek's part, the result came thanks to Sal Barcalow's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks. Barcalow has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ty Householder, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Hunter Rusnak was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Martins Ferry will square off against East Liverpool at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Indian Creek, they will take on Steubenville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
