Softball Recap: Rocky Mount Academy Comes Up Short

While it was Rocky Mount Academy who put the first points on the board on Wednesday, it was Martin County who put up more. The Rocky Mount Academy Eagles fell 7-4 to the Martin County Gators.

Berkeley Miller was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

Miller wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ellen Feagans, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Kaylen Evans was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Rocky Mount Academy's record now sits at 3-3. As for Martin County, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rocky Mount Academy will take on Grace Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Martin County, they will challenge Gates County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gates County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
