Basketball Recap: James Monroe Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Bryleigh Thomas and Mya Dunlap

James Monroe had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell to the St. Albans Red Dragons 51-45.

Despite the loss, James Monroe had strong showings from Mya Dunlap, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards, and Bryleigh Thomas, who posted eight points and 12 rebounds. That's the most rebounds Dunlap has posted since back in January.

Even though they lost, James Monroe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

St. Albans got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaycee Elzy out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Elzy is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Samyah Riggan was another key player, putting up 13 points.

James Monroe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 52-50 defeat against Cabell Midland on the 7th. As for St. Albans, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 51-44 win against George Washington on the 13th.
