Basketball Recap: West Nassau Comes Up Short

West Nassau lost against Fernandina Beach back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The West Nassau Warriors were beaten by the Fernandina Beach Pirates 60-33. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 550th, while the Pirates are ranked 196th).

When it comes to explaining why West Nassau lost, don't look at Jakari Major. Despite the final result, he posted eight points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Major a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Jefferson, who had five points.

Fernandina Beach's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jesse Basse led the charge by going 6 for 10 on his way to 15 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Basse's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dominik Dunlap, who went 5 of 8 en route to 15 points.

West Nassau is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9. As for Fernandina Beach, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.

West Nassau has already played their next matchup, a 72-49 victory against Stanton on the 15th. As for Fernandina Beach, they are taking a road trip to take on Beachside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Beachside has won four straight at home, while Fernandina Beach won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
