Basketball Recap: Piper Comes Up Short

Piper was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 38-37 heartbreaker at the hands of the McArthur Mustangs. The Bengals lost against the Mustangs in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 66-30 score last time.

McArthur's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christie Chicoye, who posted 15 points and four steals. Chicoye is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylah Bryant, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points and six boards.

Piper now has a losing record at 7-8. As for McArthur, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piper will challenge Fort Lauderdale at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for McArthur, they will face off against Deerfield Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
