Baseball Game Preview: Ingleside Mustangs vs. Jones Trojans

The Ingleside Mustangs will square off against the Jones Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ingleside hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Ingleside nor Calhoun made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Mustangs fell just short of the Sandcrabs by a score of 3-2.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Jones, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Calhoun on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Davyn Perez made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Damien Vasquez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Lang, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Jones always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Jones has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-12-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Ingleside, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-14-2.
