The Tigers were trailing Gateway 38-35 in the WPIAL Class 5A semifinals with five seconds left in their season. Quarterback
Jayvaun Shears stepped back and heaved a 44-yard prayer toward the end zone.
Receiver
Layton Jordan made an incredible leaping catch at the 5-yard line and pushed toward the goal line with four defenders draped on his back. Then Jordan wisely pitched the ball to teammate
John Harper, who walked in for the game-winning touchdown.
Pandemonium ensued.
McKeesport escaped with a memorable 41-38 victory and will face Allegheny in the WPIAL Class 5A championship game next Friday.
