Recap: Burlington Cougars vs. Cotopaxi Pirates
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Burlington Cougars had no problem doing just that on Friday. They really took it to the Pirates for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-19 win on the road. Burlington has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 21 points or more this season.
Burlington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trinitee Holmes led the charge by scoring 15 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Holmes is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. The victory was the eighth in a row for Burlington, bringing their record for this year to 18-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Cotopaxi, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.
Burlington and Limon will face off at 1:00 p.m. on March 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Burlington knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Limon likes a good challenge.
