Baseball Recap: Wright City Comes Up Short

Wright City dropped to 14-12 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 13-5 to the Duchesne Pioneers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 4-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Tyler Martin was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Wright City is 7-2 when Martin posts two or more runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kayden McCurdy, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Duchesne, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 20 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

On Duchesne's side, T.J. Griese was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Griese has posted since back in April. Collin Morgan also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Wright City and Duchesne should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. The Wildcats will square off against Wellsville-Middletown at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (231 vs. 468). Meanwhile, Duchesne (ranked 21st) will meet MICDS (ranked 108th) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pioneers 3.3, the Rams 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
