Baseball Recap: Handley Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

Handley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Piedmont, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went the Handley Tigers' way against the Piedmont Bulldogs on Wednesday as the Handley Tigers made off with an 11-4 win. Considering the Tigers have won four games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alex Busbin made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring four runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, Ben Pike was a standout: he scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Zae Dunson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Handley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.

Handley pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Piedmont, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Handley Tigers duke it out with Beulah Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Piedmont, they will challenge Pike Road at 2:00 p.m. on March 19th.
